Equine Assisted Activities
Equine Assisted Learning:
The EAL program is designed for children who are failing in the traditional school setting, and/or for children with negative behaviors, suspensions, expulsion, or low attendance. The curriculum utilizes New York State academic standards and character education skills that make learning fun and successful. The lesson plans are designed to teach character education that coincide with the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets research based on components that all children need in their lives to become productive and healthy adults. All sessions are in partnership with horses.
Vocational Training Program:
A training program in a farm environment that is coordinated with schools, social service or other counseling professionals that offers participants an alternative to standard learning tracks. In this structured and accepting environment participants are given a chance to gain self-confidence, learning basic life skills, and perhaps achieve a level of success not attainable in the past.
Therapeutic Riding Program:
Medicine Horse provides an effective, safe, innovative, and professional therapeutic riding program. Yoga on horseback, obstacle courses and the Integrative Sensory Trail are implemented as part of the riding curriculum. All classes are taught by a PATH International Certified Instructor.

Therapeutic Horticulture Assisted Activities
Gardening Program:
Horticulture therapy engages participants in supervised garden-related activities. Therapeutic garden environments offer individuals the opportunity to connect to the natural world. It helps participants to improve memory and attention to detail. It also teaches participants to work independently, to solve problems, and to follow directions. Caring for the plants teaches responsibility and establishes nurturing feelings. Horticulture therapy also physically improves muscle coordination, balance, and strength. Participants can learn the concept of "delayed gratification" by developing the patience to nurture plants from seed to harvest.

Therapeutic Nature-Based Assisted Activities
The four-season program involves participants in activities including hiking and snowshoeing. With an emphasis on environmental stewardship, participants learn to identify different species of plants and animals in the Adirondacks. The benefits of nature-based assisted activities are countless. Relationship building, emotional regulation and anxiety reduction are achieved through working with Medicine Horse staff and other program participants. Physically, muscle strength and tone are developed.
